High Pressure Prompts Heat Advisory

An upper level ridge of high pressure building over the region is forecast to contribute to temperatures being 15-20 degrees above average for much of Oregon.

Temperatures inland are expected to be much above normal with highs above 100 in most valleys west of the Cascades beginning Wednesday and lasting for an extended period of time and possibly into the next week.

The high temperatures inland will bring the marine layer onshore keeping the coastal areas cool with highs in the upper 60’s. However, as the ridge moves east over the area warm interior temperatures could create a low-level, offshore flow through the Chetco River basin strong enough to erode the marine layer creating the Chetco Effect bringing very warm regional temperatures to the Brookings area.
