Head On Hwy. 101 Crash Sends One to the Hospital and Leaves One Dead

Multiple agencies, including the Oregon State Police, the Bandon Police Department, the Bandon Fire Department, the Coquille Police Department, and Coos County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 101, near the Coquille River Bridge, in Coos County late Tuesday morning, November 19th, just before noon.

A GMC Sierra, operated by 40 year old Nickolos Hastings Barker of Bandon, crossed the center line for unknown reasons preliminary investigation indicated, striking a southbound Ford F-250 and trailer, operated by 49 year old Michael Guarino of Bandon, head-on.

The operator of the Ford Michael Guarino was ejected from the vehicle and declared deceased at the scene and the operator of the GMC Nickolos Barker was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.

The highway was impacted for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
