Early Sunday afternoon, August 18th, both Harbor Fire and Brookings Fire & Rescue worked together to rescue a young man from who had become stuck on a rock formation at the southern end of Sporthaven Beach.
After responding to an initial call, Harbor Fire & Rescue requested mutual aid assistance from the Brookings Fire & Rescue High Angle Rope and Rescue team at approximately 1:20pm, to assist with the rescue of a juvenile male had climbed a rock face and become stranded on a narrow ledge, unable to climb down south of Sporthaven Beach.
The Brookings Fire & Rescue rope team, consisting of 8 members, 6 of which are certified rope technicians, arrived and located the young man, who had climbed the rock formation and began loosing his footing, keeping him from climbing any further, leaving him approximately 30 feet above the beach on a narrow ledge.
A member of the rappel team reached the individual, and rappelled down to safety with the juvenile attached to him, both making it safely back down to the beach.
