Happy Camp/Slater Fire shows Little Growth Overnight – UPDATE

According to the latest information from the Del Norte Office of Emergency Services, the Happy Camp/Slater fire stayed fairly stable throughout the night and is holding steady near the intersection of Oregon Mountain Road and 199 just south of the Collier Tunnel.

The Level 3 evacuation order for the community of Gasquet has been lifted and lowered to level 2 as of 11:30am Thursday morning, September 10th. Gasquet will be open to residents only and Hwy. 199 will remain closed at Pioneer Rd. The communities of Hiouchi and Big Flat will remain under Level 1 evacuation status.

Weather conditions continue to look favorable as winds are expected to remain low and are predicted to be coming from the west blowing eastward away from Gasquet.

Fire resources continue to be extremely scarce. All resources that were headed this way yesterday were diverted to the Bear Fire in Oroville, California and the area continues to rely on local fire agencies from Crescent City Fire & Rescue, Gasquet, Smith River, and Fort Dick who are also being supported by one Forest Service Engine.

With the limited resources these resources are primarily focused on Structure Protection only. There has been a State Incident Management Team (IMT) assigned to the fire and EOC staff will be working directly with them to help manage this incident and hopefully obtain additional resources.
