Very early Monday morning, November 15th, a 911 emergency call was received from a female caller reporting that two men, one known to her, were physically fighting inside her home at approximately 1:45am.
It was also reported by the caller that one of the subjects was armed with a gun, and first responding officers arriving on the scene reported hearing several gunshots coming from the direction of the residence.
Officers from the Grants Pass Police department were immediately dispatched to the scene and as units arrived, officers encountered the female who initiated the original report, in the driveway of the residence, loading her two small children into her vehicle.
The woman and both children were immediately evacuated by Officers to a safe location nearby as one of the male subjects involved in the fight was contacted at the residence and detained for questioning.
The second male involved in the fight, identified as 32 year old Matthew Bryan, was unaccounted for and through the investigation that followed, it was believed Brian was armed.
It was also believed that Bryan was the individual that had fired several shots during the disturbance and it was unknown if Bryan fled the residence as police were arriving. Subsequently, a perimeter around the home was established by police to contain the situation.
Police officers assigned to securing the scene’s perimeter contacted Bryan walking along a canal near the residence approximately 3 hours after the original report at 4:40am.
32 year old Matthew Bryan was taken into custody without incident and subsequently lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Assault 2 and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
