Grants Pass OSP Trooper Involved Shooting Leaves One Man Dead

Late Tuesday morning, August 6th, a suspect in an on-going investigation entered the Oregon State Police agency’s office in Grants Pass. At approximately 10:30am, an altercation took place between the suspect and Oregon State Police Officers reportedly when Officers attempted to place the suspect under arrest.

The Josephine County District Attorney gave a statement later Tuesday afternoon identifying the suspect as 39 year old Branon Christopher Jones, a registered sex offender after being convicted on two counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the Second Degree in 2012, and also the subject of an Oregon State Police investigation.

According to the Josephine County District Attorney’s statement, Oregon State Police troopers attempted to take Jones into custody as the suspect began to struggle with Officers and allegedly attempted to grab an Officers weapon.

39 year old Branon Christopher Jones was shot by at least one Oregon State Trooper, and died at the scene. An unspecified number of Officers sustained what were categorized as minor injuries during the altercation.
