The Gold Beach Panthers Varsity Boys football team came into Friday nights contest with an undefeated 2-0 league record. They faced a Toledo Boomers team with a split 1-1 record looking to even the league standings.
The Panthers behind senior quarterback Taylor Mather have overpowered opponents throughout the year so far, and Friday night was no different.
The Boomers made it a game in the first quarter holding the Panther passing game to just two passing touchdowns to 2 different receivers making the score 12-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Gold Beach would open up the scoring in the second quarter highlighted by a spectacular long touchdown run by Yancy Rangel #24 after breaking through the Toledo defensive line for over 50 yards.
The tough defense of the Panthers would hold the Boomers to just two touchdowns making the score 34-14 at the half.
Starting the second half with a 20 point lead, the Panthers game plan clearly turned to defense, denying the Toledo team from putting together any offensive consistency and keeping the Boomer defense on the field for lengthy periods of time.
A frustrated and tired Toledo defense would then concede another 24 points before the end of the game. The Panthers would keep the Boomers form the endzone until the end of the fourth period, ending the match-up with a 56-22 victory and continuing their undefeated season.
The Panthers will travel next week to match up with a 1-2 Irish team in Waldport at 7:00 PM.
