Oregon state route 42s remains closed five miles east of Bandon after a 50-foot, 10-foot deep section of the roadway collapsed Wednesday. The washout occurred at MP 5.4 near a culvert that was blocked, resulting in water pooling on the uphill side of the road.
Just before 10:00pm Wednesday night, Two vehicles plunged into the 10-foot deep hole, sending three people to the hospital.

The damage to the roadway is considerable with one lane completely gone and the opposite lane completely washed out under the pavement surface.
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, the closure will likely continue into next week.
