GBHS Football Continues Season on the Road

The Gold Beach Panthers traveled to Yoncalla Friday night to take on the 1-0 Yoncalla/North Douglas War Eagles.

The War Eagles carry 8 seniors on their roster and used their size to jump out to a early lead on the 0-1 Gold Beach Panthers.

The War Eagles controlled the line of scrimmage and used their ground game to stretch out the field from sideline to sideline to tire the Gold Beach players, consistently beating the Panthers to edge, allowing their running game to wear down the Panthers.

The Panthers played strong the entire contest, but could not consistently control the line of scrimmage against the much bigger War Eagle line, and the War Eagles used this advantage to put 30 unanswered points on the scoreboard before the half.

Talking with Coach Higgins after the game, he told the Compass…”We took a hard loss tonight from a very good team… There is a lot of experience on their sideline, and the kids are well coached and class acts.” he said. “I couldn’t be more proud of our kids… Not one play did our boys give up. Many small victories tonight for my young crew, and we’re gonna take those small things and continue to build on them.”

The Panthers will line up against Glendale Pirates next Friday, who sit at 0-1 after taking a similar loss against the Yoncalla/North Douglas War Eagles.
