Fuel Tanker Flips, Closing U.S. Hwy 199

At approximately 12:20pm, Sunday afternoon, April 28th, a fuel tanker flipped onto its side blocking both lanes of U.S. Hwy. 199 at Round Prairie Rd in Wilderville stopping and backing up traffic for miles in both directions for multiple hours with no estimated time of when the highway would be fully open.

First responding fire crews from Rural Metro Fire arrived on scene and assessed the tanker trailer to be actively leaking diesel and gasoline and a large response of several agencies, including Oregon State Police , Oregon Department of Transportation, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, and the heavy recovery team from Caveman Towing responded, clearing the scene in approximately 3 hours after initial report to 911.

Highway 199 was opened to one lane of flagged traffic late Tuesday afternoon and eventually re-opened to two traffic Tuesday evening.

The driver was not injured and the Oregon State Police is investigating the cause of the crash.
