Firefighters from the Illinois Valley Fire District performed and extrication of a feathered kind Tuesday while returning from a rollover crash earlier in the day.

While traveling back, an owl flew into the side of the Rescue truck, and became trapped between the cab and the rescue body immediately behind the cab unit.

Firefighters located the owl and were able to free the bird after it moved down and become entangled in the undercarriage frame.

The owl was secured and very carefully worked out from under the vehicle to prevent injury to the bird, and was subsequently released and flew into the local wooded area.
