Just before 2:00 am Thursday morning, the Crescent City Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the area of Humboldt and Lauff Ave.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire burning in the single-story residential structure at 323 Humboldt. Fire was pushing from all visible windows on the north and south sides of the structure. CALFIRE Crescent City Station responded on the initial dispatch, and Fort Dick Fire and Pelican Bay State Prison Fire Department were requested mutual aid.

Fire crews were hindered in their attack due to multiple vehicles in front of the structure at the curb and on the lawn, as well as debris and holes in the yard area surrounding the location. A low hanging electrical line on the north side of the fire building also hindered crews until made safe by Pacific Power & Light personnel. The fire was knocked down in just over an hour of arrival on the scene, and crews were involved with a heavy overhaul of the structure to make sure all hot spots were extinguished.

No injuries were sustained by any of the 30 responding firefighters from any of the 4 fire agencies that responded. It was reported early that there were possible burn victims across the street, and an ambulance was requested to the scene code three. Two individuals who were inside the structure at the time of the fire were transported to the hospital, with one having minor burns. Unfortunately, one deceased dog was located at the fire structure.
Due to the heavy damage to the structure, the cause of the fire is undetermined. The fire caused approximately $80,000 in damage to the building, which is a total loss.
