On Tuesday, February 11th, at approximately 1:00pm, police and fire units from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, along with American Medical Response, were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle crash with injuries.
Units arrived to find 3 significantly damaged vehicles in the middle of SE M Street just east of the Parkway.
The investigation revealed that a 2009 silver-colored Nissan Murano was traveling eastbound on SE M Street. Near SE M Street and SE Mill Street, the Nissan illegally passed another vehicle and failed to stop prior to entering the intersection. The Nissan avoided north and southbound traffic on the Parkway, but collided head-on with a black colored 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. The Chevrolet was westbound and stopped for the red traffic signal. The collision forces then pushed the Chevrolet backward, causing it to impact a white-colored 2019 Toyota Tundra.
Upon concluding the investigation, it was determined the driver of the Nissan Murano, Kimberly Dawn Day, age 51, was believed to be driving under the influence of an inhalant and possibly lost consciousness. Day crashed into the Tahoe causing injury to the other driver and herself. The driver of the Toyota declined treatment at the scene. Day was transported to Three Rivers Hospital for evaluation. After being treated and released, Day was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on the charges of DUII, Assault 3, Reckless Driving, 3 counts of Reckless Endangering Another, and 2 counts of Criminal Mischief 2.
