On Friday evening, November 9, the Illinois Valley Fire District responded with Oregon State Police to a traffic accident at the intersection of Old Stage and Fir Drive in Cave Junction.
The vehicle was on its side in a 4’ ditch with a person trapped inside. Firefighters first secured the vehicle to keep it from rolling onto its roof or back onto its wheels where the firefighters would be working.
It was determined that the best way to get the person out of the vehicle would be to cut the windshield out. This was done with a hand operated windshield saw.
Illinois Valley Fire District Community Emergency Response Team provided traffic control. After extrication, the driver and the scene was turned over to the Oregon State Police.
