Two years ago, Dr. Jay Patel went on vacation and saw something that peaked his interest. He always enjoys learning about new technologies in healthcare, but usually those technologies addressing complex medical decision making or preventive care. However, while walking down the street on vacation he saw something else. He saw a small clinic in a strip mall had a sign advertising a fat freezing technology called CoolSculpting.
Meanwhile, Dr. Palak Patel, also known as the young Dr. Patel, was still completing his formal medical training at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as a geriatric medicine fellow. Dr. Palak Patel had his childhood in Brookings Oregon, alongside his twin brother and older sister. At a very young age, they were all exposed to healthcare through their parents. As he got older, he spent increasingly more time at the memory care home formally known as Parkview Special Care Center and later known as Ocean Park. He cites his close relationship with the memory care home for his desire to continue his path in medicine and ultimately returning home. During his time in training, his passion grew for geriatric medicine, rural medicine, and geriatric rural medicine.
Fast forward two years, Dr. Jay Patel, had put a CoolSculpting device in his office and was pleasantly surprised by the feedback from his patients. They were excited these type of services were available in Brookings, and many people wanted more aesthetic procedures. This is when the idea of creating Chetco Medical and Aesthetics was born.
Concurrently, Dr. Palak Patel returned to start his geriatric and internal medicine practice. He realized that many of his patients were driving hours away for basic aesthetic procedures. He decided to pursue additional training in aesthetic medicine to become an advanced injector of neuromodulators and dermal fillers. He didn’t stop there.
He decided to pursue NovaThreads, which allows for nonsurgical facelifts and skin rejuvenation, as well as learning about and bringing in other anti-aging treatments. This has become very popular with the overall mission of Chetco Medical Aesthetics.
