According to a Wednesday afternoon press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Pishka Court in McKinleyville regarding a report of a sighting of double homicide suspect Russell Albers.
41 year old Russell Albers, the suspect in the shooting reported in Eureka very early Tuesday morning, December 27th, where four individuals were shot and two died, was seen leaving the area in a grey Toyota Tundra by a deputy sheriff and a pursuit ensued.
Deputies pursued the vehicle south bound on Highway 101 to Arcata before heading north on Highway 101 at speeds excess of 100mph. The pursuit went north bound on Highway 101 through Trinidad and proceeded north on Scenic Drive.
The suspect then proceeded north bound on Highway 101 from Sue-meg State Park, again reaching speeds in excess of 100mph north bound in the south bound lanes of Highway 101.
California Highway Patrol assisting with the pursuit, performed a PIT maneuver which forced the vehicle off the road. However, Albers continued on the shoulder of Highway 101 before a deputy rammed and immobilized the suspect vehicle.
Russell Albers was taken into custody without further incident and subsequently transported and booked into the Humboldt County Jail for two counts of homicide, two counts of attempted murder, and child endangerment in regards to the 4 year old child that was on scene during the initial shooting incident.
