On Wednesday, June 30th, just after 2:00pm, Medford Police Officers were dispatched to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, first responders tended to the 30 year old male victim, who’s injuries, though significant, were not believed to be life threatening and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Detectives assumed the investigation and determined that the shooting occurred in a vehicle, parked on Bens Lane, which was still at the scene. At 4:57pm, while canvassing the area, detectives located the suspect on a nearby property hiding under an RV trailer.
The suspect, later identified as 39 year old Jorge Malfabon-Padilla, was not cooperative and a Taser was deployed successfully by Detectives to take the suspect into custody.
Detectives determined the victim and suspect knew each other and were involved in a dispute, inside the victim’s vehicle, when the shooting occurred. Both individuals were visiting the area and 39 year old Jorge Malfabon-Padilla was arrested on charges of 2nd Degree Assault, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Resisting Arrest.
