Disaster Preparedness Exercises Along Oregon Coast

On Monday, June 3rd, the Defense Support of Civil Authorities held a training exercise at Sunset Beach near Warrenton, Oregon.

Emergency managers, first responders, military members and disaster response groups spent part of the day touring the U.S.S. Anchorage as the ship launched two Landing Craft, Air Cushioned Hovercrafts vehicles that made training landings along Sunset Beach near Warrenton.

These Landing Craft, Air Cushioned Hovercrafts, have a payload of 60 tons, and can transport cargo such as humanitarian aid supplies and heavy construction vehicles to assist coastal areas that may be otherwise cut off during a natural disaster such as the Cascadia earthquake.

Simultaneously, in coordination with the Defense Support of Civil Authorities, Airmen from Kingsley Field, Little Rock AFB, and Yokota AB participated in the ‘Cascadia Airlift’ an exercise testing their response to a major earthquake.

Defense Support of Civil Authorities conduct training with the Armed Forces in order to provide response and recovery efforts to assist in missions normally carried out by civil authorities such as natural or man-made disasters, law enforcement support, special events, and other domestic activities.
