The Bruin boys varsity baseball team opened regular season play after a week of rain-outs, with a perfect game, hosting the Sutherlin Bulldogs Friday afternoon.
Senior right-handed pitcher, Jason DeShon, #16, took the hill for head coach Keith Wallin in the first game of an afternoon double-header, striking out the side in order in the top of the 1st, and didn’t look back. The Bruin offense jumped out to a big early lead putting up 6 points in the bottom of the 1st, that would set the plate for DeShon to shut down the Bulldogs offense.

In the second game of the afternoon, junior right-hander Kyle Burger, #5 took the mound, and set the tone early, throwing strikes and making the Bulldogs put the ball in play for the Bruin defense. After the Bulldogs went down in order in the top of the first, the Bruins would get one on, but fail to score.
The Bulldogs would start the scoring in the top of the second, putting together a two out rally off of 2 hits an a sacrifice to get one across the plate and take a 0-1 lead going into the bottom of the second inning. The Bruins would put together 3 hits and a walk to tie the score in the bottom half of the inning, sending the game into the 3rd tied at 1-1.
Burger would then retire the Bulldogs in order, throwing 11 pitches and striking out one. In the bottom of the 3rd, DeShon would double and score off of a Christensen sacrifice fly to right field, putting the Bruins in the lead 2-1 going into the 4th.
The Bruin pitcher continued to throw strikes, striking out 2 in the 4th, while the Bruin offense added another run in the bottom half of the inning after taking advantage of a Christensen walk, then advancing to second on a fielders choice, advancing to third on a passed ball and scoring on an infield ground ball, sending the Bruins into the 5th with a 3-1 lead.
The Bulldogs continued to struggle at the plate against Burger, who sat the Bulldogs down in order off of two infield ground balls and a strike-out. The Bruins would step into the batters box in the bottom of the 5th and seal the game, stringing together 4 hits and 2 walks for 4 more runs, on their way to a 7-2 win.
