In a late Wednesday afternoon press release from the Del Norte County Public Health Officer Dr. Warren Rehwaldt that primarily reviewed the Del Norte County phase 2 reopen details, Dr. Rehwaldt also reviewed the symptoms of COVID-19 to be aware of with some new symptoms to look for as social distancing relaxes and patient numbers begin to rise.
As many have learned these last few months, fever, cough and shortness of breath are all prominent symptoms of COVID-19. However, other symptoms have also been reported that many may not be aware of. Other symptoms have actually become quite prominent with this virus according to Dr. Rehwaldt, and people should be keenly aware of symptoms such as of stomach flu symptoms, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, body aches, chills, sore throat, and loss of taste and smell.
The loss of taste or smell is a very unusual symptom for this type of virus and should prompt any individual to get tested as soon as possible.
Also Dr. Rehwaldt reminded Del Norte County citizens that there is an order in place included in the reopening contingency plan submitted to the State and has led to the recent opening of businesses, stating that people must wear masks or face coverings indoor in public places and businesses with face to face contact. It is not mandatory in children and no child under 2 should try to wear a face covering, however, older children and teens are advised to wear masks just as adults.
Social Distancing, having a mask or face covering with you at all time, using it when recommended, and good hand hygiene are all still critical to getting through this pandemic safely as society begins to open.
