Decapitated Victims Vehicle Located as Search Intensifies

On March 3rd, the Island County Coroner’s Office, with assistance from the Island County Sheriff’s Office, recovered the body of a white female from the scene near Tamarack Lane on Camano Island.

The Coroner’s Office has identified her as 26-year-old Katherine Cunningham. An autopsy was done Tuesday March 6, 2018.

From the autopsy findings, the Coroner’s Office has determined the cause of death as “Homicidal Violence with Decapitation”. The manner of death is “Homicide”. The death occurred at least several days before the discovery.

Based on information obtained during the investigation the Island County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information as to the whereabouts of 34-year-old Jacob Gonzales. Gonzales is a Hispanic male, 5’9 inches tall, 150 pounds with black hair and hazel eyes.

At the time, authorities believed Gonzales to be driving a green 1990 Mitsubishi Montero, Washington license AYE2639 and may be heading to the central/southern California area.

However, on Tuesday March 13th, a vehicle belonging to the victim of the Washington State Homicide was found abandoned near Yreka. It has been reported that a 1998 Honda Civic owned by Cunningham was found abandoned on Interstate 5 north of Yreka. The car has been impounded for evidence.

Police continue to search for Gonzales who is believed to be armed and dangerous. Gonzales may be trying to make it to Las Vegas but he also has ties to Merced California. Authorities ask that the public not approach him.
