Several 911 calls were received by the Curry County Sheriff’s Office late Monday morning, February 12th, regarding a possible person jumping from the Thomas Creek Bridge, with one of the callers stated they may have seen a person go over the edge of the bridge.
The Oregon State Police were notified as Sheriff’s personnel responded, locating a vehicle parked next to the west side rail in the middle of the bridge with nobody in or around the vehicle.
Sheriff’s personnel spotted the person at the bottom of the ravine and Curry County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue personnel were asked to respond as well as Coos Curry Electric with their boom and line trucks.
Search and Rescue members descended to the bottom and located the person who had jumped and prepared the person to be hoisted back to the top.
Once back to the top of the bridge, an Oregon State Police Trooper positively identified the person as 69 year old David Kunkel of Brookings, Or., and was released to Redwood Memorial out of Brookings.
