Curry County Sheriff John Ward Warns of Phone Scams

In a press release from Curry County Sheriff John Ward Monday, February 8th, Sheriff Ward warns of recent complaints regarding citizens getting phone calls from what appears to be a local number, identifying themselves as from the Curry County Sheriff’s Office demanding money. The callers keep you on the phone with threats of arrest as well as threatening family members.

In the press release, Curry County Sheriff John Ward emphasizes that the Curry County Sheriff’s Office will never call you and advise you of a warrant for your arrest, tell you to purchase money orders and send them the information on the money order. The Curry County Sheriff’s Office would never threaten you or your family with these tactics. It is a SCAM and if you do get these calls, hang up and call your local law enforcement agency.

These are scam calls mostly coming from outside the United States with altered telephone numbers to make it appear they are calling from a local number. It is almost impossible to track these numbers to find out exactly where they are calling from. They get information from the internet on law enforcement agencies and those who work there and use that information to make you believe you’re talking to the police from a local agency.

Please do not fall for these scams and let those scum scam you out of your savings.
