The Curry County Sheriff’s Office participated in a three day joint operation throughout Curry County on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of last week April 23, 24, 25, 2019 along with several officers from the U.S. Marshalls, Oregon State Police, Brookings Police Department, Gold Beach Police Department and the Port Orford Police Department. The focus of the joint operation was to bring into compliance all non-compliant sex offenders in Curry County and also to look for those who have valid warrants for their arrest.
To date, Curry County has 165 total offenders and out of those there are 42 that are non-compliant, meaning that they have not kept up their required registration, moved out of state, deported or a few presumed deceased among other reasons. During this joint sweep, there were 153 compliance checks attempted, unable to locate 42, verified 93 addresses, verified 18 bad addresses, enforcement action taken 6 times, arrested 2, cited and released 2 and issued 2 warnings. During the sweep, law enforcement was able to get 12 offenders back in compliance.
During the sweep, Curry County Parole and Probation were doing compliance checks on probation clients in North County and found one of their probationers in possession of a stolen vehicle out of Lane County. That subject was arrested and lodged in the Curry County Jail. Two other stolen vehicles were also recovered in the South County by deputies and one individual arrested. There were a total of 14 warrant arrests with 23 warrants cleared.
The U.S. Marshalls were the lead agency in this joint operation and all information was compiled for further action on those who were found to be out of compliance. This joint operation was the first of its kind here in Curry County. The U.S. Marshalls have done several other sweeps of this nature in other counties. The cooperation among all agencies was a key to the successful mission.
