Just before 3:00pm Saturday afternoon, July 31st, two fires were identified north of Crescent City, the first near Smith River at Rowdy Creek, and the other near Peacock Bar.
Initially, no evacuation notices were announced, however, just after 5:00pm, Low Divide residents were advised to move to a level 2-BE READY to evacuate notice.
Early reports were that the Peacock Fire was approximately one acre and the Rowdy Creek Fire was approximately 16 acres.
With a quick response from multiple agencies, and incredible air support, as crews from the Peacock Fire were being released, crews were able to contain the fire on Rowdy Creek and the Level 2 BE READY notice for Low Divide residents was lifted shortly prior to 7:00pm.
