On Sunday, January 26th, 41 year old Daniel Aiken Smithson, a custodian at the Uncharted Shores Academy in Crescent City, was arrested by Del Norte Sheriff’s Officers on allegations of child sexual abuse.
According to the Del Norte Sheriff’s Office, Deputies placed Smithson in custody on Sunday on charges of oral copulation, contacting a minor with intent to commit a sex crime, arranging a meeting with a minor for sexual purposes, continuous sexual abuse of a child, sexual penetration with a foreign object: victim under 14 years old and molesting a child under 18 years old.
In a statement from the school, the situation is not related to the school or any current students, and Smithson has been placed on administrative leave. Smithson worked at Uncharted Shores Academy, a charter school in Crescent City, as a school custodian. He had also taught classes in art, chess and Dungeons and Dragons.
