Coastal Flood Advisory Issued by NWS Eureka NW California Coast

At just before 5:00 pm Thursday evening, July 12th, a Coastal Flood Advisory was issued by the National Weather Service in Eureka for the Northwest California Coast.

The alert warned of coastal flooding due to high astronomical tides, along with higher than normal tidal anomalies and southerly winds. These situations will cause minor flooding in low-lying areas along Humboldt Bay. The water level is expected to peak between 8.8 and 9.0 feet MLLW at the Humboldt Bay North Spit tide gauge.

High tide is at 11:45 pm at the Humboldt Bay North Spit tide gauge. Flooding may begin an hour or so before or continue for an hour or two after high tide.

Low lying areas will experience minor flooding including, but not limited to, roadways in King Salmon and the Arcata Bottoms.

A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
