Gold Beach football head coach Chris Higgins started the 2021 season teaching an 8 man game, to a team dominated by underclassman, and confident in his young team.
Coach Higgins told the Compass, “as the final two games of this mini season comes to a head I have to say our young Panther team has improved leaps and bounds from where we started.
We have learned a lot about ourselves this year, and number 1 being that we will go into any battle and never give up. We have played some good teams this year with a lot of 8 man experience and upper classman on the other side of the field, and with 14 of my kids being freshman and sophomores, I couldn’t be more pleased with the effort they lay out Friday nights.
Our future is bright, and I feel all the pieces are in place to succeed in the coming years for Panther football. Our seniors have done a great job this year mentoring our younger kids and I’ve seen first hand the time they will take out during practice for “teaching moments” on techniques, and the younger kids buy into that.
Looking forward to these last 2 games with these seniors and were in the works now of seeing our 3 seniors off by sending them to an ALL-Senior 8 man all star game for a week Long ( last go ) this summer, at a sport they grew up playing and loving.”
