Coach Bavaro and BHHS Bruin Football Sees Action

Both the Brookings-Harbor High School J.V. and Varsity football teams continue to work through session 2 of the COVID-19 adjusted Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) sports season, and competed Friday night in a round robin format of 7 on 7 Football.

On Friday night, the BHHS Bruin J.V. and Varsity football teams participated in a 7 on 7 Football tournament at Marshfield High School. The tournament was attended by Reedsport, North Bend, Mrytle Point, Marshfield, and of course the Brookings-Harbor Bruins. The round robin format allowed each team play a 25 minute contest against each team.

As a safety precaution, COVID-19 distancing procedures were put in place requiring face-masks for players to participate, each team was contract traced and teams were required to stay in predesignated areas on the field.

Bradley Condracki had great night on defense, Seth Byrd made some really good plays from his wide-receiver and corner positions. Logan Holler and Andrew Burger did well at Quarterback, Gavin Mills has really improved on his catching skills and did a nice job on defense, Oggie Badger made his catches at Tight End, and Kallen and Kyler Christensen have made huge progress picking up new schemes.

The Bruins have one more week of skill development and on the field practice. As a program we were working on our new schemes were adding this year and improve on our skill development, alignment and assignment. These games helped the team make positive strides for the future and if they keep playing with one another and getting the most out their opportunities, this group will be a tough out for anyone in spring.

“The coaching staff had a blast as well!” Coach Bavaro told the Wild Coast Compass. “Overall, it just being able to work with the kids and watch them compete as hard as they did and it was great to see our kids smile, compete and have some fun. It was a great sight to see some kind of football be playing on a Friday night under the lights.” Coach Bavaro said.
