In a Monday press release, the City of Brookings announced that it had been awarded a grant through the Oregon Department of Transportation Carbon Reduction Program which will provide funding for the purchase of two new Ford Lightning Electric Trucks and the installation of a level 2 charging station with two plug outlets at City Hall.
“This grant allows Brookings to make a smart investment in its future.” City Manager Tim Rundel stated. “By adding electric trucks to our fleet and building the charging infrastructure, we’re improving efficiency, cutting operating costs, and positioning the City to meet future demands without placing a burden on local taxpayers.”
In addition to the immediate upgrades, the grant will enable the city to install the infrastructure for a second level 2 charging station, ensuring that as needs grow into the future, Brookings will be prepared to expand its fleet with additional electric vehicles.
“This is a great opportunity for our City to embrace practical solutions that benefit the community now, and in the years ahead. By taking advantage of this grant, we’re building a foundation for a fleet that is both reliable and cost-effective while staying adaptable to the challenges of the future.” Mayor Isaac Hodges added.
