Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, March 29th, the City of Brookings announced that the Oregon Department of Transportation has reduced the speed limit on Chetco Avenue after the completion of a speed zone study conducted by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The study reviewed the possibility of the need to lower speeds in areas identified as a high-risk pedestrian corridor.
Subsequently, their study identified two areas in need of speed reduction, slowing traffic from 25 to 20 mph through town from Oak Street to Pacific Avenue and from 35 mph to 30 mph from Pacific Avenue to just North of Arnold Lane.
The City of Brookings concurred with ODOT’s proposed speed zone changes at the February 14, 2022 Council meeting.
