A powerful Cascade Christian boys basketball team blew into town Wednesday night to take on the head coach Luke Beaman and the Bruin boys basketball team as the 2023/24 basketball season moves into full swing.
The Challengers flexed as their starting line-up, featuring no players under 6ft including their 7ft senior center, took the floor. The Bruin boys gameplan included determination, and out working Cascade Christian fell short Wednesday evening as the Challengers methodically imposed their strength throughout the game.
In first quarter play, the Bruin boys held their own with sheer determination, challenging Cascade Christian in the lane with brave drives to the basket, keeping the score 8-13 mid-way through the first half. But Cascade Christian ran off of Bruin missed shots to take a ten point lead after the first period.
Trailing 16-26 to start the second period, the Bruin boys continued to relentlessly attack the Challenger defense, but the overwhelming Cascade Christian presence on the floor refused to allow the Bruins to rally, holding the Bruin boys to just 2 points in the quarter while adding 27 points before the half time break.
Cascade Christian took the floor to start the second half with a commanding 22-53 lead, and continued the tough defense into the third period. The Bruin boys took advantage as the Challengers looked to run their fast break offense, periodically opening up the floor allowing the Bruins to put up 6 points in the period as they extended their lead to 28-80.
The Bruins could only manage 3 points as the Challengers closed out the game adding 11 more points to their total to take the 31-91 win.
The Bruins will be home Friday evening, hosting the Lakeview Honkers, making the trip to the coast after taking the win against Rogue River Wednesday evening with tip-off scheduled 5:30pm, Friday evening.
