Update: Saturday, 1:30pm – 7/28/18: Again, the Carr Fire in Shasta County showed no signs of slowing as it added another 32,594 acres reaching 80,906 acres since the last report at 8:30pm Friday night. Tens of thousands of people are displaced through mandatory evacuations as the fire roared into suburban neighborhoods on the outskirts of the town of Redding.
The Carr Fire became even more as deadly as it claimed 3 more lives after a great-grandmother and her 2 grandchildren were found inside their burned home. Friday Redding Fire inspector Jeremy Stoke unfortunately lost his life, however no other specifics regarding Mr. Stoke or the circumstances surrounding the incident have been released. Mr. Stokes is the second firefighter to lose his life after a bulldozer operator lost his life Thursday. Multiple firefighters and civilians have been injured as the fire advanced into more populated areas in the last 24 hours.
As of last reports late Friday night, the fire had jumped the Sacramento River near Keswick and is within the city limits. As seen in the maps provided, the fire is advancing at rapid rates in almost all directions simultaneously in both wilderness and populated areas as it approaches Interstate 5 which bisects the city.
Authorities have stated that 500 structures have been destroyed in the more than 75 square mile fire and almost 5000 structures remain threatened. 75 structures are damaged to different degrees and the blaze is only considered 5% contained.
As of Thursday a total of 1,748 Fire personnel were battling the blaze, that number increased to 3,410 fire personnel Friday.
218 engines arrived Friday to assist the already 110 engines there Thursday bringing the number to 328 engines, 17 helicopters, as 40 more dozers arrived to help the 22 dozers already on scene and there are now and 62 water tankers deployed to the almost 50,000 acre blaze which at last report is only 5% contained.
