Spring sports programs are getting under way, another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.
This weeks selection is senior Miguel Ramos, a multiple year member of the Bruins varsity boys track team, chosen by head coach, Jason Fulton for his hard work, consistency, and dominance so far for the Bruin track this 2022 season.
“Miguel is a very hard worker, starting off as a reluctant distance runner…” coach Fulton said, “and after the cancellation of the 2020 season due to Covid-19, he asked for a chance at the grueling 400m” Fulton continued…”and surprised us with his immediate success, finishing 4th in the state.”
A two sport athlete for the Bruins, Ramos was also a valuable part of the boys soccer program for 4 years, transitioning to track in the spring, while holding on to a 3.0 gpa and considering a future in physical instruction.
In the opening event of the 2022 season, Miguel Ramos finished 1st in the boys 400m in a school record time of 53:58, ran the final leg of the 4×100 relay in a dramatic come from behind victory finishing in 46:80, as well as the 4×400 relay, and also finished 2nd in the 200m with a personal record time of 23:86.
“Miguel spent his off season in the weight room…” coach Fulton said. “It has made him stronger, and all his hard work and dedication is paying off early this 2022 season”.
