Brookings-Harbor Varsity Football played their second league game on the road again at South Umpqua’s Kent Wigle Stadium. The cool crisp night of football would be started with a Jason Vanginderen kick-off to the Lancers.
The Lancers first offensive possession would be a steady diet of hurry-up offense and runs pounding up the middle of the line. South Umpqua would keep the Bruins on their heels, wasting no time marching the length of the field and scoring on a screen play just 2:30 into the first quarter.
The Lancers would give the Bruins a break with a short kick giving the Bruins great field position close to mid-field.
A tough Lancer defense would hold the Bruins on their first possession forcing a Bruin punt. The punt would be blocked and returned for another touchdown 7:22 in the first quarter.
Brookings-Harbor would be unable to put anything together offensively throughout the first half as the Lancers would score on a 20-yard pass play on a seam route up the center of the field.
The Bruins would trail 47-0 before they could get to the locker room and regroup at the half.
An inspired Brookings-Harbor team would take the field relieving the ball to start the second half.
The Bruins would sustain ball control throughout the drive and take the ball down to the Lancer 10 yard line, only to have the drive stall before they could get the ball in the end zone.
The Brookings-Harbor defense would stiffen in the second half and keep the Lancers off the board.
Late in the game, running back Bailey Stamm, #1 would get to the outside and outrun the Lancer defense on a 40 plus yard run into the end zone. Stamm’s scoring run with little more than two minutes left in the game would make the final score 47-7.
After winning the second half by holding the Lancers scoreless and finding the end zone themselves, the Bruins had a long bus ride home to begin their preparation for next weeks home game against a Douglas team coming off of a 47-0 loss of their own.
Bruins will be at home next Friday against a Douglas Trojan team at 7:00 PM, be there and be loud.
