BHHS head soccer coach and his undefeated 13-0, #3 OSAA ranked Bruins finished regular season play Tuesday afternoon in Coquille Tuesday and came away with 12-0 win over Coquille Red Devils in Coquille.
The Bruin defense shut down the Red Devils and senior Jair Valdovinos #13 hit for 4 goals with 3 assists while sophomore Fabian Villa #10 put 2 behind the keeper with 6 assists in the game.
On Wednesday, the Bruins played their last game of the 2019 regular season taking on the Marshfield Pirates who were 8-6 in the 4A-4 Sky Em League and will be in a ‘play-in’ play-off game this Saturday.
The Pirates brought a disciplined and skilled team to Brookings, and challenged the Bruins to play mistake-free soccer.
The Pirates were solid from front to back and play was centered between the penalty boxes as both teams tested each other’s offside trap and speed.
The Bruins would strike first as sophomore Jake Beaman fed Fabian Villa #10 a pass to run onto and he put it behind the Pirate keeper 16:00 minutes into the first half of play.
Fabian would score again later in the half after sophomore Rylan Bruce #5 put a beautiful cross on the forehead of Villa for another Bruin goal.
The Pirates also broke through the Bruin defense and put many shots on the Bruin keeper Juan Hernandez. Hernandez brought his A game Wednesday, denying the Pirates throughout the contest with some spectacular saves from equally impressive shots by the Pirate offense.
Leading 2-0 at the beginning of the second half, the Bruins withstood a Pirate offensive push in the early minutes where Bruin keeper Juan Hernandez was put to the test. Again, the Bruin defense and Hernandez turned away the offensive threat.
Bruin striker Fabian Villa continued to push into the Pirate defense and found himself again at the end of another well placed ball from Rylan Bruce that Villa would take off the volley and pound into the back of the net.
Villa was not quite done, finding a cross from an indirect free kick from senior Harrison Nelson #16 in front of the goal, scoring again on his second header and putting the Bruins up 4-0 with minutes left in the game. Braydon Holler with finish off the Bruins scoring finding a loose ball in front of the goal and putting it in the net.
The BHHS Bruins repeat as the 3A/2A/1A-SD4 Special District 4 league Champions with a 15-0 overall 2019 regular season record.
