After a tough match Thursday afternoon, where the Bruins suffered a late game questionable penalty call that allowed Umpqua Valley Christian to tie the undefeated Bruins, coach Jess Beaman and his now 4-0-1 Bruins took to a soaked, sloppy, mud pit to take on a strong 3-1 North Bend Bulldog team.
Both teams started out defensively strong, pushing each teams offense out of the penalty area, while testing what the field will allow with balls and players struggling in 2″- 3″ deep mud.
The Bruin attack begins with stretching their opponent from sideline to sideline creating one on one situations, and then using speed on the outside to beat the defense to the penalty area. After a break down the left sideline, the Bruins worked the ball to the left corner of the penalty and took a shot that was blocked and followed up by junior center mid-fielder Dylan Hodge #12, who buried a shot past the Bulldog keeper to start the Bruin scoring.
Junior forward Bryan Valdovinos #21 worked his way into scoring position just two minutes later and put the ball in the net again, putting the Bruins up 2-0 less than fifteen minutes into the contest. Dylan Hodge #12 would score again extending the Bruin lead to 3-0 before the half.
The Bruins came back from the break and kept the pressure on the Bulldogs, creating situations that the Bruins did not take advantage of, however, sophomore Josh Serna #18 and senior Rylan Bruce #5 did finish off scoring opportunities to finish the game 5-0 over the North Bend Bulldogs to move on to 5 and 1.
The Bruins are scheduled to take on the 3-1 Glide Wildcats Wednesday afternoon.
