Bruin boys basketball played their last game at home Friday evening, hosting the Rogue River Chieftains as the season winds down.
Hosting their final homegame of the season, head coach Luke Beaman started all seniors for the Bruin boys who came out ready to play from the tip.
Although the Bruin boys came out with high energy, the offense just could not find the basket early, finding themselves trailing 4-7 mid-way through the first. But the Bruin defense would spark the offense holding the Chieftains to just three points for the remainder of the quarter while putting seven points on the board to take an early 11-10 lead into the second quarter.
The Bruins continued to frustrate the Chieftain offense, holding them scoreless to start the second quarter as the Bruins began to extend their lead to 16-10. But Rogue River fought through the eight minute scoring slump and rallied scoring 10 points in the quarter to keep the game close at the half.
Leading 22-20 to start the second half, Bruins defensive adjustments held the Chieftains to just 2 points in the first half of the third period as the Bruins established their lead again. As the period continued, the Bruin defense allowed only 5 points in the period, again jumpstarting the Bruin offense for ten points and a 37-27 lead after three.
Starting with a ten point lead in the fourth, the Bruins continued to extend their lead as Rogue River struggled at the basket scoring only three points to start the fourth. The Bruins would adding seventeen points in the fourth to take the 51-39 win.
The Bruins will finish regular season play Monday on the road traveling to Coquille to challenge the 7-6 Red Devils with tip-off scheduled for 7:00pm.
