Bruins Handle Bandon 28-14

Coach Bavaro and his 1-0 Bruins varsity football team were on the road Friday night as they visited the home of the Bandon Tigers.

The Bruins, coming off of their convincing win over the Gold Beach Panthers last Friday night were eager to test themselves, and Coach Bavaro’s team was fired up and ready to play.

After the Bruin defense pinned the Tigers deep in their own territory, special team pressure forced a short punt and a penalty put the Bruin offense inside the Tiger’s 10 yard line. A power dive over the left tackle later and senior running back Manny Zamora #26 was in for the touchdown on the Bruins first offensive play from scrimmage giving the Bruins an early 7-0 lead.

The Bruin defense was consistent, however, penalties allowed Bandon to continue to sustain long time-consuming drives. After the Bruin defense worked Bandon into a very long 3rd and 20 situation, a personal foul by the Bruins would allow the Tiger offense to remain on the field. Bandon would then complete a 35-yard pass play down to the Bruin 1 yard line and then walk into the endzone on the very next play evening the score at 7-7.

Going into the 3rd period, Coach Bavaro had spent the 1st half mixing up the play calling to see what worked. But after sophomore Peyton Armentrout returned the 2nd half kick-off to the Tiger 45 yard line, the Bruins wasted no time getting into the endzone. A pass play from senior quarterback Ethan Hooper #10 to junior wide receiver Oggie Badger #5 would cap a 45 yard early 3rd quarter drive putting the Bruins up 14-7.

The Bruins would go on to score two more touchdowns in the 3rd period and go on to win the game 28-14.

The Bruins will be at home as the 1-1 Rogue River Chieftains travel to Brookings next Friday at Bruin field at 7:00pm.
