The Bruins came out onto the floor last night with an obvious bounce in their steps and certain level of calmness and confidence as they hang on to a 3 way tie for second place and post-season play.

The Bruins jumped out early pressing the 1-8 Lancers interrupting their offense and throwing the Lancers off their game from the start. The Bruins never let the Lancers get settled in their offense and only allowed 3 South Umpqua players on the scoreboard in the first period with only 12 points. The Bruins, led by senior forward Brig Schofield who ripped off two 3 pointers and went 2 of 3 from the line for 8 points. Luke Beaman and #12 Evan Fronckowiak both hit a 3 and a bucket for 5 points each as the Bruins buried the Lancers 24-12 in the first period.

In the second the Bruins continued to run and added 14 points to the scoreboard after just four minutes in the period. Austin Fronckowiak hit a bucket and a 3 pointer as #15 Conner Christensen hit two baskets for 4 points of his own in the second period. The high pressure defense held the Lancers to just 13 points in the second period and the Bruins took a 20 point lead into the halftime break 45-25.

The third period was all about defense as the center combination of sophomre Derek Bonde #23 and junior Jason Vanginderen #10 took physical control of the paint making Lancer shooting difficult at best and made the Lancers foul on the Bruin offensive end. Bonde and Vanginderen each hit two baskets for 4 points each in the period and sophomore Logan Holler #1 hit two baskets and a free throw as the Bruins put another 17 points up in the quarter as the Bruin defense held the Lancers to just 7 points.

As the teams entered the final period the Bruins held a 45-32 lead while a Lancer team struggled to keep up. The Bruins played hard until the final whistle with Bonde leading all scorers on the night with 14 points in the game.

The Bruins lost no ground in league play with the win and have their final league game against the 6-3 Cascade Christian Challengers at home in a game that could decide post-season play with a win or a loss to either team.
