Now well into the Bruins Football Association Flag Football program season, week four of season play started Wednesday on an afternoon under cool cloudy skies more associated with football weather.
This week, as in weeks past, the Bruins Football Association continued it’s tradition of having their coach’s share their experiences with the community.
This week we talk with Coach Marco Thorson, who coaches the Rams in the 3rd to 5th grade division.
Coach Marco Thorson, who is also a Special Education Teacher at Kalmiopsis Elementary as well as the Head Coach of both the Azalea Middle School and Brookings-Harbor High School wrestling programs, is also active as a head coach in the Bruins Football Association Rookie Tackle program.
We asked coach Thorson what he expected going into this new coaching experience. “Well, I would like to see these kids be open and not afraid to trying every position,” he said, “so its important to me that they enjoy their time and get excited to work hard.”
“I have an amazing group of young players” and “I am most surprised at how much they have learned a short amount of time,” he said, “and it looks like they are having a good time playing together as a team.”
What do you hope the kids take away from your coaching experience? “I hope they take away a joy of working hard and competing, while also having the chance to play each spot on the field.” he said.
“For the kids or parents considering playing in the future, Rookie tackle is an amazing opportunity for our young kids. We work hard to keep the game safe for participants, and we hope to see many more new players in the program, and all of you back out in the Fall.”
