The 6-3 Brookings-Harbor Boys Bruins played their last league Friday night after traveling to the home of the Marshfield Pirates. The Pirates played the Bruins in Brookings on Friday, January 26th and left with a 48-22 win.
The Bruins walked onto the floor of the highly ranked 10-0 Marshfield Pirates intent on getting that win back, but the Pirates were set on finishing the season with an unblemished record and had no intention of taking that loss at home on the seasons final night.
The bigger and faster Pirate team held the Bruins to just 5 points in the first period and would hold the Bruins to just 10 points in the half putting 25 points up before the halftime break.
Aside from size, the Pirates played a very aggressive defensive game, bumping players off of their paths, disrupting passing lanes and not allowing Bruin shooters a clean look at the basket.
The Bruins struggled to stay in the game as the physical Pirate defense held the Bruins to 17 points mid-way through the 3rd period as they doubled their lead to 17-39 with just 3 minutes in the third period.
The Bruins would match the Pirates in the fourth period with both teams hitting for 13 points as the Pirates finished the night with 63 total points, taking the 40-63 win ending the season 10-0 and the Bruins sitting at 6-4 going into the postseason.
Brookings-Harbor will play their first post-season game next Saturday on the road, with more information available later in the week.
