BHHS varsity head coach Jess Beaman and his 2018 3A/2A/1A Special District 4 undefeated champion BHHS varsity boys soccer team started the defense of their title with high expectations for this season.
The Gold Beach/Pacific Panthers made the 28 mile drive to the Brookings-Harbor High School soccer field to take on the BHHS Bruins in what was both teams 2019 season opener Thursday afternoon and the defending champs had no mercy for the Panthers.
The Bruins sophomore striker Fabian Villa #10 worked his way into the penalty box and was held setting up his shot resulting in a penalty kick within just 4 minutes of the opening whistle. Villa buried the PK and the Bruins led 1-0 early.
Just 3 minutes later, Villa #10 would assist senior striker Jair Valdovinos #13 and just like that the defending champs were up 2-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Gold Beach/Prospect Panthers played a very good defensive game in the first half, but the Bruin offense was just too much as the game went on.

The Bruins scored six goals in the first 40 minutes of play as the Bruins had at least 8 different players record a goal in the game.
The Bruins will be on the road to Roseburg Tuesday to take on the Monarchs from Umpqua Valley Christian. The Monarch’s have won both of their games by wide margins and will be a test for the Bruins.
