An optimistic Bruins team in search of their first win of the season traveled to an undefeated Marshfield’s home-field.
The Marshfield Pirates, celebrating senior night and dedicating their stadium to Kent Wigle confidently hosted a Bruin team, excited to play.
The Bruins would receive the kick off to get the game started and Marshfield would set the tone on Brookings-Harbors first possession. The Marshfield Defensive line towered onto the field and dominated the line of scrimmage with sheer size, and the Bruins first possession would be four and out.
Driven back on their first possession the Bruins would punt from deep in their own territory giving the Pirates excellent field position on the Bruins 40 yard line.
With six minutes left in the first quarter, the Pirates would power into the endzone with the games first score. Followed up with a successful 2 point conversion Marshfield led the game 8-0.
After the kick off the Bruins would start their next drive on their 30-yard line, and a strong Marshfield defense kept the Bruins from a first down. The Pirates would then fumble Bruins Josh Smith recovering the ball.
The Bruin break would be short-lived after their drive stalls on the Pirates 10-yard line. Brookings-Harbor could only muster a total of 10 yards of offense in the first half against the physically dominating Pirate team.
The second half starts with a 43-0 Marshfield lead and determined Bruin defense would manage to hold the Pirates to one score in the second half.
Late in the game, new quarterback Marcus Clay would fake the hand-off and sweep to the outside and tear off a big gain down to the Pirate 10 yard line. But it wouldn’t be until Bruin Bailey Stamm takes the handoff and powers into the end zone on a run to the outside that the Bruins would score.
The young Bruins were outmatched 50-6 by a physically overpowering Marshfield team from the first possession to the final whistle.
Brookings-Harbor will go into next week looking for their first win of the season at home against the Suislaw Vikings at 7:00 PM Friday night. Be there to support the Bruins on their Homecoming to push them onto a win.
