Bruins and the New SOCOMI Sports Complex Shine Bright Hosting the Brookings Rotary Invitational

Junior, Cambria Whitted finishing 6th in the 100m hurdles with a school record time of 21.05 ahead of freshman Sequoia Merten who finished 7th in 21.77. Whitted in the 300m hurdles in a time of 59.79.

It’s hard to know which was shining brighter Saturday, the perfect weather, or the shiny the new SOCOMI Sports Complex as  head coach Jason Fulton, and the Brookings-Harbor High School track team hosted the annual Brookings Rotary Invitational, featuring 13 schools Saturday, April 5th.

Under what could only be described as perfect conditions with no wind and comfortable temperatures, thirteen schools descended on Elmer Bankus Field and the new SOCOMI Sports Complex at Brookings-Harbor High School to compete in 17 track and field events.

Senior Eden VanMaren clearing 7′ 0″ to place 3rd in the girls pole vault.
Junior Kevin Hooper finishing 11h in the 100m with a time of 12.57, also finished the long jump measuring 15′ 10″, finished 2nd with the boys 4×100 relay team, and finished 7th in the 200m with a time of 25.65.
Senior Makenna Ratliff placed 9th in the girls shot put with a throw of 26′ 7.5″, also placed 4th in the 300m hurdles with a time of 58.83, 9th in the high jump, and 10th in the long jump with a distance of 13′ 5″.
Evan York finishing 5th in the 400m in a time of 58.08, finished 10th in the high jump at 5′ 0″, and participated on the 4×400 relay team finishing 5th.
Freshman, Kaiya Evans, out of the blocks on her way to a second place finish in the girls 100m with a time of 13.33. Kaiya also finished 1st in the 200m with a personal best time of 27.58, and participated on both the 4×100 relay and the 4×400 relay teams finishing 3rd and 2nd.
Junior, Patrick Hatch, finishing 2nd in the boys javelin with a throw of 140′ 8″, also finished 2nd in the 800m with a personal best time of 2:17.47 and placed 3rd in the discus with a throw of 130′ 6″.
Junior, Johanna Larson, on her way to finishing 2nd in the 400m with a school record time of 1:03.20. Larson also finished 2nd in the 300m hurdles with a time of 54.43, finished 5th in the high jump of 4′ 6″, and also participated on the girls 4×400 relay team finishing 2nd.
Freshman Jare Velasco-Ramos and Kevin Hooper Junior completing the hand-off in the 4x100m, finishing 2nd with a time of 47.96. Jare Velasco-Ramos also finished 13th in the 200m in 26.36, 18th in the 400m finishing in 1:02.82, and 9th in the long jump with a leap of 17′
