Head coach Vanessa Nidiffer and her varsity girls volleyball team opened regular season league play Tuesday evening hosting Cascade Christian to start the 2023/24 season.
The Lady Challengers jumped out to an early lead with aggressive play at the net to start the game taking a 1-14 lead in first set. The Bruin girls would rally, fighting back to within 6 points midway through the set getting to 16-22, before Cascade Christian closed out the set 16-25.
The Bruin girls struggled at the net against a powerful Cascade Christian front line, falling behind early as the Lady Challengers built a 1-14 lead. The Bruin girls scrambled to cover open spaces on the floor as the Lady Challengers continue to find them to take the second set 7-25.
Now leading 2 sets to 0, Cascade Christian relentlessly attacked the Bruin girls defense, again jumping out to a 1-14 lead in the final set, before going on to take the final set and the match.
“Cascade was a really tough opponent,” coach Nidiffer said after the game. “They run a super fast offense that we had trouble defending against. I see us making strides every game though. We had much better serving and communication than past games.”
The Bruin girls will be on the road this Thursday, traveling to North Valley after the Lady Knights took a 3-2 win to start their season against South Umpqua.
