The Bruin girls varsity softball team hosted the Coquille Lady Red Devils in a non-league match-up Wednesday afternoon, after the Lady Red Devils defeated the Gold Beach Lady Panthers earlier in the day before traveling to Brookings.
The Bruin girls started Maddy Taylor #22, in the circle, and the Bruin girls pitching proved to be too much for the Lady Red Devils after Taylor started the first half of the first inning retired the Lady Red Devils striking out two.
In the Bruin girls half of the first, the offensive machine that is the Bruin girls softball team, went to work, overpowering the Coquille defense and pitching going through their line-up at the plate in the first, putting the game out of reach early. The Bruin girls strung together 5 walks, 4 singles, a triple and a hit batter for 11 first inning runs, overwhelming the Lady Red Devils very early in the game.
The Coquille Lady Red Devils earned two walks to get runners on the basepaths in the top of the second inning, but Taylor would strike out two and get the final out on an infield ground ball to first, ending the Lady Red Devil threat and sending the Bruin girls back to the batters box already leading 11-0.
The Bruin girls then put the game out of reach in the bottom of the second inning, putting together 5 singles, two Lady Red Devil errors, and two walks to add another 8 runs, extending their already large lead to 19-0 after just two innings.
The Lady Red Devils would catch up to Bruin girls pitching in their half of the third inning, getting a single and two walks on base, working them through the basepaths for 2 runs, closing the score to 19-2 before the game was ended with the Bruin girls recording the win.
The Bruin girls are on the road to Medford Friday afternoon to finish the three game series after taking a 1-0 lead in the series defeating the Lady Challengers Tuesday afternoon, with the first pitch scheduled at 4:30pm.
