Bruin Girls Soccer Puts Another Win in the Books

Sophomore center forward, Amelia Bruce, #10, hitting the left footed shot to put the Bruins up 2-0.

Coming off a rough couple weeks of soccer, head coach Brian Carlson and his Bruin girls varsity soccer team hosted the 1-8 Lost River Lady Raiders Saturday afternoon at Bruin field.

The 2-4-2 Bruin girls, coming off a rough two weeks of play recording two ties and two losses, came out needing to right the ship and put a win in the column.

Senior defender, Marissa Scott, #15, ending a Lost River attack.

The Bruin girls were very active, and much of the play stayed in the mid-field as both teams fought to control the ball in the others defensive half of the field.

Senior Zoe Carlson, #11, had two goals in the game.

Senior forward, Zoe Carlson, #11, would break the ice first, after numerous unsuccessful Bruin girl attacks into the Lady Raider penalty area, the aggressive play from the Lost River defense would earn Carlson a direct free kick from the left corner of the penalty box 12:00 minutes into the first half. As the Lady Raiders scramble to set their defense, Carlson shot, finding the back of the net over the outstretched Lost River goalkeeper.

Sophomore Sophia Bauer, making the pass upfield.

With a 1-0 lead, the Bruin girls turned up the intensity, forcing the ball in front of the Lost River goal and pushing into the defense looking for fast break opportunities.

Sophomore center forward, Amelia Bruce would collect a pass just inside the penalty box and drive to the goal before hitting a left footed shot, giving the Bruin girls a 2-0 lead.

Senior mid-fielder Ivy Tuttle, #6, setting up the pass.

The Lady Raiders would continue to work for scoring opportunities, but senior middle defenders Marissa Scott #15 and #13, Rockette Marrington would consistently close that door, forcing Lost River to the outside, leaving limited scoring opportunities for Bruin girls goalkeeper Dakota Greenwood to turn away.

Sophomore defender, Eden Van Maren, #12 clearing the backfield.

The Bruin girls would score again at the 54:00 minute mark after Carlson struck again from outside, making the score 3-0 Brookings-Harbor, before going on to take the 3-0 win.

Senior defender, Rockette Marrington, #13, pushing the ball forward.

The now 3-4-2 Bruin girls are on the road today, Monday, October 10th, traveling to Grants Pass to challenge the undefeated 9-0 record of the North Valley Lady Knights, who handed the Bruin girls their first loss of the season at home, in mid September.
