The Bruin girls basketball team and head coach Kara Miller ran into a well oiled machine in Saturday afternoons main event as the hosted the league leading undefeated Sutherlin Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Bulldogs demonstrated why they are sitting on a 6-0 league record coming into Saturday’s game, as they took control of the game from the tip, defensively smothering the Bruin girls offensive attack, holding them scoreless until the final minutes of the first half, as the ran up 29 points of offense to take a 28 point lead into the half time break.
Sutherlin dominated inside with tough defense, but the Bruin girls came out in the second half understanding they had no choice but to play the physical game the Lady Bulldogs were playing, and struggling with cold outside shooting, were forced to drive the ball inside, take the physical abuse to get the inside shots that would also get them to foul line.
Led by sophomore forward, sophomore Adison Hodges, #33, who had 11 points in the second half, the Bruin girls had four players in the scorebook in the second half. However, the Lady Bulldogs were too much for a tired Bruin girls team playing their second game in less than 24 hours, and their 19 points in the second half were just not enough, as Sutherlin made the ride home with a decisive 19-52 win.
The Bruin girls will be on the road Tuesday, traveling to Myrtle Creek to challenge the South Umpqua Lady Lancers with tip-off scheduled for 6:00pm.
