The Bruin girls varsity softball team continued its winning ways Friday on a cold damp day of baseball as the Bruin girls traveled to Medford to finish the series with the Cascade Christian Lady Challengers after taking the first game of the series decisively 17-1 earlier in the week at home.
In the first game of the afternoon, the Bruin girls matched their offensive output they demonstrated Wednesday, putting up 16 points while holding the Lady Challenger offense to just 1 run. The Bruin girls jumped out to an early lead that would never be threatened, by patiently working the Cascade Christian into counts that forced 4 walks in the first inning, scoring all of those base runners to take an early 4-0 lead. Any offense the Lady Challengers could put together came in the bottom half of the first inning for Cascade Christian after a hit batsman scored, getting the Lady Challengers the only run they would get in the game.
The Bruin girls would go on to score in every inning of the first game, highlighted by a # 16 Jo Pryor inside the park homerun with one on, scoring two runs and extending the Bruin girls lead to 13-1 at the end of the fourth inning. Senior Maddy Taylor, #22 continued to plow through Lady Challenger batters, allowing only two hits and 1 run to take the BHHS win, and lead the series 2-0.
In the final game of the afternoon, as well as the series, the Bruin girls offensive machine was even more productive, if that was even possible, scoring 30 runs on a truly overmatched Lady Challenger team. The Bruin girls scored in double digits in the first and third innings, scoring 26 of their 30 points in the contest.
The Bruins girls racked up 11 hits in the second game highlighted by a #11, Jordan Crosby two run in the park homerun, while Pryor, James, and Ziegler each posted multiple hits. Maddy Taylor and combined to overpower the Lady Challenger batting order, allowing only 3 hits and 3 runs while striking out 6.
Overall on the afternoon, the Bruin girls scored a total of 47 runs while allowing only 4 Lady Challengers across the plate, while compiling 20 hits, 36 RBI, 12 stolen bases and two homeruns on their way to 47 runs in both games combined.
The Bruin girls will be on the road next Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled at 3:00pm to start a new three game series against the undefeated, 6-0, Sutherlin Lady Lancers.
